A new regular container ship route from the Pyeongtaek Port to Japan is open, connecting Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Yokohama.

The Pyeongtaek Regional Office of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries and the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation announced on January 20 that SITC, a Chinese shipping company, started operation of a new route connecting the Pyeongtaek Port and Japan via eastern and western Japanese provinces.

This new direct route will be served once every week by two 900TEU container vessels, including the SITC NAGOYA, with a schedule to arrive at Pyeongtaek Port on Saturday and depart for Japan the next day.

The Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation has actively engaged in the diversification of sea routes from Pyeongtaek Port over the past two years by continuously visiting Japanese companies near Pyeongtaek Port and the Pyeongtaek and Anseong areas as well as relevant organizations such as the Japanese Embassy and the Japan External Trade Organization. The corporation has also conducted port sales activities in Tokyo, Nagoya and other places in Japan to open new routes and to increase container traffic volume.

The Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation will deliver an appreciation plaque to SITC Container Lines Korea for opening a new route, and will undertake customized sales activities targeting consignors and forwarders located in metropolitan areas to accelerate the stabilization of the new route and to secure container traffic volume.

SITC Container Lines Korea Director Yun Seong-pil said, “Consigners of export and import goods to and from Japan who are located in the central region of Korea had no option but to use other ports and bear high inland transportation costs because there was no direct route from Pyeongtaek Port to Japan. For our strategic goals of offering cost savings and convenient services to customers, we opened this new route. We’re going to carry out proactive marketing activities jointly with the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation, and build a win-win partnership with consigners located in the central region of the nation.”

Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation Public Relations and Marketing Team Manager Kim Jeong-hun said, “Despite the slowdown in the world’s shipping and logistics industries, Pyeongtaek Port marked the highest growth rate of any port in the nation last year. We will continue our efforts to maintain the current growth trend this year. We’re going to strengthen our port sales activities to further diversify by opening new routes while also promoting cost savings that can be achieved through Pyeongtaek Port for the benefit of customers and the local economies.”
