Gyeonggi Province and KAIST will work closely to support education, research and start-ups in Pangyo Techno Valley.

Governor Nam and President Kang signed a cooperation agreement to enhance exchange and partnerships between Gyeonggi Province and KAIST at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex at 5:00 pm on December 15.

They agreed that a research-focused university with excellent human resources and R&D capacities is essential for Pangyo Techno Valley as it seeks to take the next step in becoming a global high-tech R&D cluster. Accordingly, they agreed to work together for the development of the valley.

“Our goal is to foster a large IT and high-tech cluster in several areas of the province in order to help related businesses. I believe KAIST will play a pivotal role in assembling the puzzle pieces in this project,” said Governor Nam. “I will actively support diverse research projects so that we can get tangible results,” he added.

President Kang said, “It is a great opportunity for businesses within the province to commercialize their superior technologies in partnership with the excellent researchers of KAIST. We will make great efforts in industry-university cooperation so that we can see Pangyo Techno Valley foster world-leading, high-tech companies.”

The agreement aims to promote businesses in Pangyo Techno Valley and build a creative environment through the support of tailored education, research and business development, and launch programs based on mutual cooperation.

Areas of cooperation include: development and education programs focused on technologies required in the field; events for co-research and exchanges between companies and KAIST; supporting programs in such areas as consulting, patents, and globalization; and attracting national fund and discovering cooperative projects home and abroad.

Choi Hyun-deok, Assistant Governor for Economy and Investment of Gyeonggi Province, said that the agreement would serve as an opportunity to promote Pangyo Techno Valley through cooperative R&D between businesses in the cluster and KAIST, a recognized research leader.
